Bonno van Doorn's work is full of references. These can be references to classical modernists like Matisse or the sculptures of Brancusi, but many objects also have a very personal meaning that isn't immediately recognizable to the viewer. Bonno himself isn't a sculptor like Brancusi. He usually creates installations in which everything in the exhibition space contributes: the walls, the floors, and the lighting: everything is important. In the shop windows in the Zeeheldenbuurt neighborhood, he exhibits six small "portable" installations: wooden structures that contain sculptures, images, found objects, and lamps. Bonno sees them as inner landscapes, where things he finds inspiring or important are given a place. The whole is visually very appealing and positive, which is exactly what he wants. There are always flowers for those who want to see them.
